Clappifieds is a growing and successful Germany based classifieds ad portal currently transitioning to an end-to-end marketplace, that provides a secure and dedicated platform for pre-owned Apple products to both commercial and private users.

Founded in November 2014 by Martin Olczyk and Christian Strunz, the Clappifieds portal is currently available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with a English language version soon to be launched and services to be rolled out in New York - in the meantime!

As one of our newest Partners, we took the opportunity to chat with Martin, Co-Founder of Clappifieds, to find out more about the classifieds-soon-to-be-marketplace, the challenges it faced, its objectives and solution as well as its plans for the future.

How did Clappifieds come to life and why?

The secondary market for Apple products is larger than the combined market for all other consumer electronic products. High value retention and high end products are the base for the most interesting second-hand market within the tech and electronic world. The European market is the second most important market for Apple Inc., and a very attractive second-hand market. Private and commercial users are dealing with a volume of over 5 billion EUR across Europe annually.

Currently, solutions for this product market include horizontal marketplaces like eBay, trade-in companies or online shops, but there was no single source marketplace solely focused on the Apple second-hand market. The available solutions at that time came with their own challenges, such as where to trade or the risk of fraudulent activity on classifieds sites. We wanted to establish a global, focused, trusted and secure marketplace for Apple products.

 

What challenges did you face?

Although the products traded on Clappifieds are pre-owned, our focus is still on a luxury electronic brand and the transaction values are still very high compared to a traditional horizontal classifieds site. We faced the same problems as other classifieds websites - scammers and fraudulent activity - but in our case, the financial stakes were high because of the value of the products.

 

What were your objectives?

To prevent fraudulent activity of transactions carried out on the Clappifieds website and to allow the good and honest users to display and build their reputation so that potential buyers would know that they could trust and rely on them.

 

What was your solution?

In order to accomplish these objectives, we decided to partner with eRated as it offers the perfect verification solution for a classifieds site.

Any plans for the future?

We want to establish Clappifieds as the leading marketplace for pre-owned Apple product around the world and are currently within a transformation process to becoming an end-to-end marketplace which will provide payment and secure transaction solutions to our users, and we will of course continue to work with eRated the entire way. In the meantime, we plan to roll-out services in the US very soon and enter into further geo-markets during 2016.
